El Paso Children’s Hospital is proud to partner with Project ADAM to bring lifesaving resources, education, and training to schools across El Paso and its surrounding communities. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, and when it happens in schools, every second counts. By funding Project ADAM, you help ensure that schools are equipped with automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), staff are trained to respond confidently, and emergency plans are in place to save young lives.
With more than 326,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occurring annually nationwide and survival rates dropping rapidly without prompt defibrillation, your support can be the difference between life and death. Together, we can protect our children and communities and make schools “Heart Safe” honoring the memory of Adam Lemel. Together we are “making schools safer for the hearts that matter most.”
Support Project ADAM
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is one of the leading causes of death in youth and it can happen without warning. Project ADAM helps community spaces become Heart Safe by providing the necessary framework, AEDs and AED resources, and training to prevent tragedy through emergency preparedness and mentorship.
Founded in memory of 17-year-old athlete Adam Lemel, who passed away during a basketball game, Project ADAM has saved over 250 lives nationwide. With the right tools and training, lives can be saved and your support makes that possible here in El Paso.
Why It Matters
- SCA accounts for 30% of sudden deaths in youth ages 14–21
- Brain damage can begin in as little as 2–3 minutes without defibrillation
- Many schools lack the training and resources to respond effectively
