The Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) at El Paso Children’s Hospital annually selects a “Miracle Child”—a young patient with an extraordinary medical journey—to represent the hospital and share their story of hope and healing. These children and their families serve as ambassadors, representing thousands of children treated at the El Paso Children’s Hospital. These stories exemplify the resilience of the children and the comprehensive care provided by the hospital.

2024 Miracle Child - Bella

This year’s Miracle Child, Isabella (Bella), is a true inspiration.

Meet: Isabella (Bella)

Age: 10

Journey: At just two months old, Isabella (Bella) had her first seizure. She was rushed to the emergency department, and after many procedures and tests, was diagnosed with epilepsy. Two weeks after she was approved to go home, she was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit and soon after, transported to other hospitals, looking for answers. One doctor warned that she might not make it to her first birthday. From her first diagnosis, Infantile Spasms, to intractable epilepsy, cerebral palsy, hip dysplasia, and chronic respiratory failure, Bella has continued to overcome health challenges. Due to the severity of her case, she was transported to numerous hospitals seeking answers from twelve specialists across different states. Her mother worked closely with her care coordinates to educate, train and prepare the family to use all of the necessary equipment at home. Today, Bella is ten and her mom says “she is a warrior!

Isabella (Bella) and their family serve as Ambassadors, sharing their story to raise awareness and inspire hope throughout the community.

2023 Miracle Child - Hailee

Hailee received a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, at El Paso Children's Hospital a month before her ninth birthday. During her cancer journey, Hailee and her family found hope and positivity through the hospital's Child Life and Arts programs. Painting and making slime are activities she particularly enjoys to boost her spirits. After three years of treatment, Hailee completed chemotherapy, but unfortunately relapsed a year later and resumed treatment. Throughout her experience, Hailee has never stopped being grateful for the support she received from her family and the care team at El Paso Children's Hospital.

Now 14 years old, Hailee actively seeks ways to help others, we are so proud of her advocacy for others.

2022 Miracle Child - Anderson

For the first three years of Anderson's life, he received evaluations and tests to monitor developmental milestones for his age. Everything always came back normal, though his mom always felt there was something wrong. When Anderson was three, he was diagnosed with Arnold Chiari malformation. Within five days, he was taken into surgery.

Within two weeks of recovering from his surgery, Anderson rode a scooter for the first time. He crossed a balance beam at the park. He gave the tightest hugs. He ate his food without regurgitating and asked for seconds at mealtime. He started putting on weight and growing, meeting the typical milestones for children his age. The experts at El Paso Children's Hospital were able to use neurology-specific equipment, funded by donations. These pediatric-specific tools allow for endoscopic procedures to be less invasive, have better outcomes and shorten the length of a hospital stay.
